Gentle on the Environment and Your Clothes, Electrolux Washers Are up to 83% More Energy-Efficient and Use 56% Less Water
Augusta, GA – This Earth Day, Electrolux and Kelly Ripa are teaming up to introduce an eco-friendly washer and dryer in a truly vibrant color – “Kelly Green.” The new limited edition shade, an upbeat green designed to pack a visual punch, was inspired by the great outdoors and self-proclaimed eco-Mom Kelly Ripa.
“I love green … the color green and the act of living green,” said Ripa. “What better place to make a simple, every day difference than in the laundry room? Kelly Green is a gorgeous shade, and just by using the new Electrolux high-efficiency washer and dryer you can save energy and use less water. How green is that?”
This April, just in time for Earth day, Electrolux is kicking off its virtual flower garden campaign to drive awareness and raise funds for Global Green USA. Starting today, when you go to electroluxappliances.com and plant a virtual flower for a friend, Electrolux will donate $1 to Global Green USA to support their healthy green schools initiatives across America.
To drive participation and help spread the word, everyone who logs on to the site and plants a virtual flower for a friend will be automatically entered for a chance to win a new Kelly Green front-load washer and dryer from Electrolux.
“Earth Day is a great time to renew one’s commitment to being green. When you plant a flower in the virtual flower garden, you’ll feel good, do good, and brighten someone’s day,” says Ripa. “You might even be lucky enough to win a new Kelly Green eco-friendly washer and dryer from Electrolux.”
"Planting a virtual flower helps Global Green raise funds to create healthier, more energy-efficient schools for kids, our most precious natural resource," said Global Green President & CEO Matt Petersen. “Individuals can also help by planting edible gardens to grow food in the school in their neighborhood, or urge the school administration to increase the energy efficiency of their classrooms – doing so will lower school energy bills as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We are so pleased be the beneficiary of this initiative and to join with a company long dedicated to creating energy-efficient appliances.”
Electrolux is committed to giving consumers the opportunity to choose energy-efficient and ENERGY STAR qualified appliances without compromising on design, functionality or quality. Electrolux is the only major household appliances company included in the most recent Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. As part of keeping its own house in order, Electrolux committed to reduce total energy consumption at factories and facilities by 15% by the end of 2009 . Having nearly achieved that target a year ahead of schedule, the company announced it will cut energy use an additional 15% by 2012.
“Electrolux’s new eco-friendly laundry collection helps to minimize energy and water consumption. The Eco-Friendly option available with most Electrolux wash cycles reduces the water temperature, using up to 43% less energy than a hot water wash. Innovative eco-friendly features are a priority across our appliance line, from washers that use up to 83 percent less energy1 and 56 percent less water2 to dishwashers that use at least 41 percent less energy and 40 percent less water than was used just 10 years ago,” notes Electrolux Major Appliances President and CEO, North America Keith McLoughlin. “So whether you’re looking to make a statement or simply love the color green, the new Kelly Green laundry collection is the perfect way to help make your home more eco-friendly.”
The Electrolux line of stylishly designed appliances, which recently made its debut in North America, boast a distinctive curved-front design, signature blue LEDs electronic controls and first-in-class features such as one button you push to cook the perfect turkey and a new induction hybrid cook top that makes cooking easier, faster and more efficient. The entire Electrolux appliance collection is available nationwide through select independent appliance dealers and at Best Buy, Lowe’s and Sears.
Kelly Ripa, multi-tasking mom, talk show host, and veteran of the school bake sale scene, used her new Electrolux range to bake a signature batch of cupcakes to kick off a digital campaign to help fight ovarian cancer. For every virtual cupcake sent at electroluxappliances.com this February, Electrolux will donate a $1 to The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Along with sending a virtual cupcake this Valentine’s Day, Electrolux is selling “Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve” T-shirts, designed by Ripa, on its Web site (www.electroluxappliances.com) For each T-shirt sold, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the OCRF to support research to find a cure.

And to top it off, Electrolux is auctioning off a one-of-a-kind red kitchen suite on eBay. The bidding on the “Red Hot Red” kitchen – which includes a built-in range, dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave – starts Wednesday, February 11th at 3 p.m. EST and lasts until 3 p.m. EST on Wednesday, February 18th. All proceeds of the charity auction benefit the OCRF as part of Electrolux’s commitment to help this worthy cause.
